Applications

Industrial yard stabilization

Paving a yard of tens of thousands of square metres in concrete or asphalt is often an investment out of proportion to its use. ROAD//STABILIZR® and DUST/BLOKR® are a suitable solution for industrial yards, parking areas, internal haul roads, waste dumps and material stockpiles, all surfaces Cypher Environmental treats internationally.

The stabilized layer is built from the material already on site, with standard equipment, and the DUST/BLOKR®-treated surface no longer generates dust that affects equipment, stock and personnel.

Waterproofed access road in a logistics area

The challenge

The challenges of unpaved industrial yards

Large manoeuvring and storage surfaces raise problems that neither regravelling nor water spraying solves durably.

The prohibitive cost of conventional paving

Concreting or asphalting large surfaces (open storage, logistics parks, site platforms) frequently exceeds the economically justifiable budget.

Dust affecting equipment and people

Dust raised by manoeuvring machinery settles on stock and equipment, reduces visibility and degrades working conditions.

Rutting under repetitive heavy traffic

Forklifts, trucks and machinery running the same routes quickly deform an inadequately compacted surface, especially on a clay bed.

Mud carried onto public roads

In the wet season, vehicles leaving the site carry mud onto public roads: a risk of penalties and a poor image.

Preparing to lay the surfacing over the stabilized layer

The solution

The solution: an in-situ stabilized yard with a dust-free surface

A load-bearing layer built from the existing soil, waterproofed and treated against dust, at a fraction of the cost of paving.

Stabilized road towards the warehouse area

ROAD//STABILIZR® increases the density, stability and CBR value of the supporting layer: the clay particles become strongly and semi-permanently bonded and lock the aggregates in place, while swelling and permeability decrease. The resulting platform carries repetitive heavy machinery traffic and remains stable through freeze-thaw cycles, in wet and dry conditions.

DUST/BLOKR® treats the running surface and storage areas: it eliminates dust with results that outlast chlorides, does not become slippery when wet and reactivates with humidity, so reapplications are rare. It is non-corrosive (compliant with the Boeing BSS7432 aerospace standard) and U.S. EPA Safer Choice certified, solid arguments in environmental and safety audits. The range of surfaces Cypher treats internationally includes haul roads, access roads, parking areas, runways, helipads, waste dumps and material stockpiles.

We have not yet executed industrial yards in Romania (our direct references are on communal and county roads), but the procedure in the technical approval applies identically, and sizing is based on laboratory tests and the estimated traffic.

The procedure

The execution procedure, step by step

Executed with standard earthworks and road equipment, in stages by zone, so activity on the site can continue.

  1. 1

    Preliminary laboratory testing

Identification of the soil on site according to SR EN ISO 14688-2 and determination of dosages based on estimated traffic and loads.

  2. 2

    Preparing the platform

Scarifying, levelling with drainage slopes towards the drainage system and bringing the layer to optimum compaction moisture.

  3. 3

    Treatment with ROAD//STABILIZR®

Applied diluted in water, before compaction; 1 litre treats 33 m³ of compacted soil. The work can be staged by functional zone.

  4. 4

Treatment with DUST/BLOKR® and final compaction

Waterproofing and dust-proofing of the running surface and storage areas, followed by final compaction.

  5. 5

    Putting into service

The platform can be used immediately after final compaction; on zones with recurring dust, DUST/BLOKR® can be reapplied by spraying at long intervals.

Benefits

Benefits for investment directors and engineers

Arguments for logistics operators, industrial developers, contractors and site administrators.

A fraction of the cost of concreting

The stabilized layer built from in-situ material avoids paving large surfaces in concrete or asphalt, with their execution and maintenance costs.

Dust eliminated at the source

Equipment, stock and personnel are no longer exposed to dust; visibility on site improves.

Increased bearing capacity

Higher density, stability and CBR value: the platform carries repetitive heavy traffic without rutting.

Fast, stageable execution

Standard equipment, no special technologies; each zone can be used immediately after final compaction.

Non-corrosive, Boeing BSS7432 compliant

The treated surface does not corrode machinery and equipment, unlike chloride treatments.

Arguments for the environmental audit

Biodegradable, non-toxic products, ISO 14001; DUST/BLOKR® is U.S. EPA Safer Choice certified, with zero environmental impact.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What types of platforms is the solution suitable for?

Storage and logistics yards, machinery and truck parking areas, internal haul roads, site platforms, waste dumps and material stockpiles. Internationally, Cypher Environmental also treats runways and helipads, where dust and corrosion requirements are critical.

Does the stabilized platform carry daily heavy traffic?

Yes: the treatment increases the density, stability and CBR value of the layer, which locks the aggregates in place. The exact thickness of the stabilized layer is sized based on preliminary laboratory tests and the estimated loads.

Are there industrial references in Romania?

Our local references are on communal and county roads; for industrial platforms we rely on Cypher Environmental's international experience on haul roads, parking areas, waste dumps and stockpiles. The procedure in the technical approval is the same.

How is a stabilized platform maintained?

Maintenance drops dramatically compared with a gravelled surface: the stabilized layer is semi-permanent, and DUST/BLOKR® reactivates with humidity, so its semi-soluble nature reduces the need for frequent reapplication. Spray reapplications happen at long intervals, depending on traffic.
