Since the first project executed with Cypher Environmental products in Romania, we have had hundreds of technical conversations with design engineers, site supervisors and investment officers. The questions repeat themselves. That is a good sign: it means people are doing their homework. We have gathered here the answers to the most frequent ones, as a starting point before an applied discussion about your project.

About the product and its working mechanism

What exactly is ROAD//STABILIZR®?

A concentrated liquid solution based on organic catalysts, electrolytes and surfactants, intended for the long-term stabilization of roads that require continuous maintenance because of wet weather and marginal materials. It is not a binder in the classic sense (no mass is added to the soil), but a catalyst that changes the behaviour of the existing clay fraction.

How does it act on the soil?

The product penetrates clayey soils and modifies the clay particles, which become strongly and semi-permanently bound. The clay, normally the source of the problems, becomes a flexible binder that locks the aggregates in place. At the same time, the product removes excess water from the soil and promotes high compaction and densification. The measurable result: increased density, stability and strength, a higher CBR value, reduced swelling and permeability.

On which soil types does it work?

The main target is soils with high clay content: that is where the product has the raw material it transforms into a binder. In the works executed in Romania we have treated clayey, sandy and silty soils as well as existing gravel surfaces; the procedure in the technical approval covers cohesive and non-cohesive soils classified according to SR EN ISO 14688-2. The exact behaviour of the soil on your site is always confirmed through preliminary laboratory testing; that is the first step of the procedure, not an option.

About dosage and application

What is the dosage?

The official dosage: 1 litre of ROAD//STABILIZR® treats 33 m³ of compacted soil. For a quick estimate of the quantity needed on your project, you can use the calculator on our website, and then we verify the figures together.

What equipment is needed?

Only standard road equipment: the product is applied diluted in water, during soil preparation, before compaction. No dosing plants or special equipment are required. For execution we use rented equipment or the contractor's machines, as appropriate.

Are there application restrictions?

Yes, two firm conditions: the product is not applied on frozen ground, and the treated layer must be brought to the optimum compaction moisture content, since water is part of the procedure's recipe. These are normal execution conditions for any quality earthworks job.

When can traffic be opened?

Immediately after final compaction. There is no curing or protection period as with cement-stabilized layers.

Can it be applied over an existing gravel road?

Yes: existing gravel surfaces are part of the range of materials treated in our works in Romania. The existing layer is scarified and regraded, the product is applied during preparation, and the material already in the road is fully recovered. This is precisely where one of the procedure's important savings appears: no materials foreign to the area are brought in, so the excavation and haulage costs for imported layers disappear.

About long-term behaviour

How does it behave under freeze-thaw cycles?

The product is stable under freeze–thaw cycles and effective in both wet and dry conditions. The reduced permeability of the stabilized layer limits water ingress, the main cause of winter deterioration.

Is the stabilization permanent?

The bonding of the clay particles is semi-permanent, and the product is explicitly positioned as a long-term stabilization solution, with dramatically reduced maintenance costs. The warranty of proper execution and of the validity of the work is established by contract.

About the environment and documentation

What certifications and approvals exist?

The procedure holds technical approvals issued by the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration and by the Permanent Technical Council for Construction. Cypher products are ISO 14001 certified; DUST/BLOKR®, used together with ROAD//STABILIZR® in the approved procedure, is certified U.S. EPA Safer Choice and complies with Boeing BSS7432.

Is it safe for the environment?

ROAD//STABILIZR® is biodegradable, non-toxic and non-corrosive: a natural, environmentally friendly product. The products can be used even in protected areas and Natura 2000 sites. The MSDS are available on request.

What documentation do we receive for design?

The technical approvals, the product data sheets, the execution procedure and the results of the preliminary tests. Together with the designer we prepare the documentation needed to include the solution in the project; if requested by contract, the tests are carried out through specialised laboratories.

About delivery and costs

Where do the products come from and how long does it take?

Directly from Cypher Environmental, in Canada; there is no local stock. Quantities up to 1,000 litres arrive by air freight in 7–10 days; larger quantities by sea, in 40–45 days. Packaging: 20 L containers or 1,000 L IBCs. Plan your order accordingly, especially for works with tight deadlines.

How much does it cost?

Prices are communicated on request, depending on the quantity and the services included (products alone with technical assistance, supervision, or complete execution). Bear in mind that a cost comparison must consider the whole chain: the dosage of 1 L per 33 m³ means minimal logistics compared with the binder tonnages of classic solutions, and the material stays in-situ.

Who applies the product?

Three options, depending on the project: we supply the products with application assistance, we supervise your contractor's execution, or we carry out the work completely. On request, we train the client's teams with specialised personnel.

Did you not find your question?

The list above covers the standard questions, but every road has its particularities: the soil, the traffic, the hydrological regime, the budget constraints. For any question related to your specific project, the most effective step is a direct conversation with an engineer experienced on works executed in Romania. Call us or write to us on WhatsApp; we answer to the point, with technical data, not brochures.
